Rw2: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes Park and Kigali City Tour (4 Days)

On this trip, you will go for a city tour of Kigali city; visiting the Genocide Memorial Museum at Gisozi and the local markets. Visit Parc National des Volcans (PNV) also known as Volcanoes Park; in the north of Rwanda which habituates approximately 300 mountain gorilla species. Seven Gorilla families are habituated  for tracking. They include; Mahoro and Umubano families found on the Visoke volcano, Hirwa family on the Sabinyo volcano and Sabinyo family located between the Sabinyo and Visoke volcanoes. There are also Susa family with 35 individuals on the Karisimbi volcano and 13 individuals on the Sabinyo volcano. there is Kwitonda family as well. Each of the Gorillla families allow a maximum of 8 tourists tracking per day. On addition to gorilla tracking, you may also  climb the Visoke volcano and track other primates including golden monkeys. you will also  visit the Dian Fossey’s Karisoke Research Centre on a village walk.

GORILLAS IN PNV & CITY TOUR KIGALI, RWANDA (4 Days)

ITINERARY

Day One: Arrival
On your arrival at Kanombe airport, you will be welcomed by our guide and transfer to Kigali town. O/N: Hotel chez Lando Hotel (BB).

Day Two: Kigali City Tour
After breakfast, you will go for city tour of Kigali visiting the Genocide Memorial Museum at Gisozi and the local markets. You drive Northwards for about three ours and transfer to PNV for dinner and rest overnight preparing for Gorilla tracking in the following morning. O/N: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Hotel La Palme (FB).

Day Three: Parc National des Volcans
After breakfast, you will drive to the Park Headquarters for briefing by the guides before heading for gorilla tracking in the park. Tracking can be hard ad challenging hence requires physical fitness of the participants.  Parc National des Volcans is a forest with hilly sceneries, steep slopes and swamps can make tracking a hard and tiring experience. Tracking can take as long as up to 9 hours of a walk in the forest searching for the gorillas. However an our of interaction with this closest relatives to human is indeed a rewarding experience. O/N: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Hotel La Palme (FB).

Day Four: Parc National des Volcans – Kigali
Track the golden monkeys and climb the Visoke volcano. You will continue to Dian Fossey’s Karisoke Research Centre. There after drive to Kigali and transfer to Kanombe airport for your return flight (HB).

ChimpanzeeThe Parc National des Volcans (PNV) is part of the Virunga Conservation Area and covers more than 125 km². PNV is home to five  Virunga volcanoes: Sabyinyo (3.674 m), Gahinga (3.474 m), Bisoke (3711 m), Muhabura (4.127 m), and the Karisimbi, the highest volcano with an altitude of 4,507m, just 1000m less than the Rwenzori Mountains. All five volcanoes are extinct, the active ones are located in Congo. Two of them erupted recently; the Nyiragongo erupted in January 2002 and Nyamulangira in July 2002. You can track gorillas, climb the Visoke volcano, track the golden monkeys or visit the Karisoke Research Centre, which Dian Fossey the famous primatologist set up, or visit local villages.
